Antonietta Collins
Antonietta Toni Gonzalez Collins is a Mexican American Sportscaster. Her current role is a sportscaster for ESPN who is also an anchor of SportsCenter as well as hosting SportsNation. She joined ESPN in the year of 2016. She is the child of the journalist on television Maria Antonieta Collins. Antonietta was bilingual from the age of nine. Her skill was instrumental in securing her first post as a production assistant for Univision Miami and Univision Miami, where she worked with the producers of programs including Nuestra Belleza Latina and Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud. Her next assignment was a Sports Reporter at The CBS St. Petersburg Affiliate. In 2009, she relocated to Rio Grande Valley, Texas for work as an anchor for the newscast of The Spanish channel KNVO TV 48 Univision and Fox2 News. Her stories covered immigration as well as drug trafficking and other issues on both the Texas and Mexico border. She was also an anchor and Spanish reporter for the newscast of 5 p.m. as well as anchor and reporter on the newscast of 9 p.m. in English and an anchor and reporter for the newscast of 9 p.m. in English, as well Spanish reporter for 10 p.m. In addition, she was used on occasion as a weather and sports anchor. Deportes 23 was Univision Dallas affiliate where she took on additional responsibilities. She wrote pieces to the NBA, Dallas Cowboys' postseason, NBA ALDS ALCS World Series or Finals FC Dallas. In addition, she also hosted and produced Univision 23's Accion Deportiva Extra local sports show. The show was promoted to be anchor of the sports segment on Despierta America Deportes' morning show. The anchor also worked in similar roles on the magazine program of the network Primer Impacto and for UniMas Network's Contacto Deportivo. Antonietta's parents are originally of Veracruz Mexico. She was born November 22, 1985 in Mexico City. She has a sister. The family in 1992 left Mexico and moved to Miami. Her parents divorced soon after in 1995. Her mother remarried one of the naval architects named Fabio Fajardo who died of kidney cancer in 2006. The couple stayed in Canton Ohio with her older sister during the summer, where she had been provided with an opportunity to work. Antonietta was a senior in high school and had a clear idea of the path she was looking for. When she was deciding whether Mount Union would be a good fit for her Antonietta went to visit the school. The campus was a dream for her. The university also provided her with the program she was interested in. She graduated from high school and began studying media at the university. Mark Bergmann, her professor who was also the manager of WRMU's 91.1FM station where she worked for many years, became a friend. Professor Bergmann encouraged her to believe in herself and was deeply moved by his enthusiasm for journalism.
